Prefab pools in Tinos
Tinos has dozens of villages scattered across its slopes, valleys with dovecotes, and dry-stone walls that divide the fields into terraces. It is one of the windiest islands in the Cyclades.
Many old village houses have been renovated, and the pool usually goes on a terrace with a view or on a plot at the edge of the village.
What we watch for on Tinos
- Dry-stone walls as windbreaks: the stone terrace walls break the wind. A pool on the south side of a dry-stone wall is sheltered from the north wind without the need for a new wall.
- Dovecote valleys: pigeons and other birds come to the water to drink. A cover when the pool is not in use and regular chlorine checks keep the water clean.
- 15 August: around the Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary the ferries are full. Material transport is scheduled away from August and the island's big feast days.

Questions
Can a pool be built at a house inside a village on Tinos?
It depends on the rules for the settlement, because quite a few villages are designated traditional settlements. The engineer checks what is allowed, and often the best spot is a terrace at the edge of the village.
