Frequently asked questions about prefab pools

The questions we hear most often before a pool is built.

What is a prefab pool?

It is a pool whose walls are made of ready-made galvanized steel panels, anchored to a base and lined with a PVC membrane (liner). It goes up quickly, with no formwork, and works exactly like any other pool. See our prefab pools page for the full details.

Do I need a permit for a prefab pool?

A pool of up to 50 m² that meets the conditions does not need a building permit. Instead it needs a small-scale works approval, with a declaration signed by an engineer. Full details on the pool without a building permit page.

Which areas do you build pools in?

All over Attica, on the islands and across mainland Greece, from Thessaloniki and Drama down to Kalamata. See all the areas we cover.

What warranty does the liner have?

The liner in our prefab pools comes with a written 10-year warranty.

How deep is a prefab pool?

The panels are 1.10 m or 1.50 m high, and that sets the depth of the pool.

How long does a prefab pool last?

The panels are galvanized steel and the support buttresses are hot-dip galvanized, so they stand up to moisture. The liner has a written 10-year warranty.

Can a prefab pool have an overflow?

Yes. A prefab pool can be built either with a skimmer or with an overflow channel.

Does a skimmer clean as well as an overflow?

Yes. Mechanically, the two systems work the same way and both give exceptionally clean water.

Up to what size do you recommend a skimmer?

As a rule, up to about 60 m². For larger pools we recommend an overflow.

Does an overflow pool need a tank?

Yes. The water that spills over collects in a balance tank before it is filtered and returned to the pool.

What is the grating made of?

Plastic or marble, about 25 cm wide.

What is the smallest pool you build?

The size is adapted to your yard. Send us the dimensions of the space and we will suggest the right solution.

Do I need a permit for a small pool?

For a pool under 50 m² that meets the conditions, a small-scale works approval with an engineer's signed declaration is enough.

How much water does an 8 × 4 m pool need?

About 32 m³ with 1.10 m panels and about 45 m³ with 1.50 m panels.

What is the largest size without a building permit?

The water surface must be under 50 m². A 9 × 5 m pool (45 m²) is within the limit, while a 10 × 5 m pool (50 m²) is not.

Can I build a pool with no approval at all?

No. A pool under 50 m² does not need a building permit, but it does need a small-scale works approval and an engineer's signed declaration.

What is the maximum depth for a small-scale pool?

Up to 1.5 m, with the structure rising no more than 1 m above natural ground level.

Why is a small-scale pool usually prefab?

Because the walls must not be reinforced concrete. The steel panels of a prefab pool meet this condition.

Which pool costs the least?

A prefab pool with a skimmer and a liner, under 50 m², so that a small-scale works approval is enough.

Is the quote free?

Yes. Fill in the form or call us, and one of our team will send you a proposal.

How long does a liner last?

The liner keeps the pool watertight for its whole life. In our prefab pools it comes with a written 10-year warranty.

Is the liner slippery?

A standard liner is smooth. If you want a non-slip surface, SOPREMAPOOL membranes have Class C slip resistance.

Should I drain the pool in winter?

No. A liner pool must never be fully drained, because the water holds the liner in place. We lower the water level, drain the pipes and cover the pool.

How many hours a day should the pump run?

It depends on the pool's volume and the temperature. In the summer heat, circulation runs for more hours. We give you operating instructions at handover.
