Prefab pool maintenance
A prefab pool with a liner needs a little care, but regularly. This is the guide we give our clients.
Every week
- Check the pH: keep the pH between 7.2 and 7.6. Outside that range, chlorine works less well and the liner is put under strain.
- Check the chlorine: free chlorine is usually kept between 1 and 3 mg/l.
- Skimmer baskets and pre-filter: empty out leaves and insects.
- Vacuum the floor: with a pool vacuum or a robot.
The filter
When the pressure on the filter gauge rises, the filter needs a backwash. After rain, Saharan dust or lots of swimmers, it needs washing more often.
The cover
A cover at night and on windy days cuts evaporation, holds the temperature and keeps leaves out of the water. It is the simplest way to reduce chemicals and cleaning.
The liner
- Do not throw chlorine granules straight onto the liner. Dissolve them first or use the dispenser.
- Clean the waterline with mild products suitable for PVC.
- Never drain the pool completely. The water keeps the liner taut and in place.
Winter preparation
- Balance the water chemistry one last time.
- Lower the water level below the skimmer openings.
- Drain the pipes, the pump and the filter, especially in areas with frost.
- Fit winter floats that absorb the pressure of ice, and a winter cover.
In spring, raise the water level, rinse the filter and balance the chemistry again.

Questions
Should I drain the pool in winter?
No. A liner pool must never be fully drained, because the water holds the liner in place. We lower the water level, drain the pipes and cover the pool.
How many hours a day should the pump run?
It depends on the pool's volume and the temperature. In the summer heat, circulation runs for more hours. We give you operating instructions at handover.
