Prefab pools in Syros
Syros, with Ermoupoli as the capital of the Cyclades, has a permanent population all year round. Pools are built outside the town, in Posidonia, Vari, Galissas, Kini and the surrounding villages.
In Posidonia, the 19th-century mansions with their large gardens recall the era when Ermoupoli was one of the most important ports in the country.
What we watch for on Syros
- Desalinated water: the island's mains are largely supplied by desalination plants. This water is usually soft, so the pH shifts easily and is checked more often in the first weeks.
- Sheltered southern bays: Finikas, Posidonia and Vari face south and are better protected from the north wind. On more exposed coasts the pool needs a spot behind the house.
- Listed buildings: if the mansion or the garden is listed, approval from the relevant authority is required. A prefab pool does not involve heavy works, but this procedure comes first.

In many cases yes, with approval from the authority responsible for listed buildings. The engineer prepares the application, and the pool is designed so that it does not touch the building or the protected features of the garden.
