Prefab pools in Skiathos
Skiathos is a small, pine-covered island in the Sporades, with dozens of beaches and villas on slopes overlooking the Aegean and the surrounding islets.
Most homes are along the south coast, from the town to Koukounaries, where the island's main road reaches almost every settlement.
What we watch for on Skiathos
- From Volos or Agios Konstantinos: materials cross by ferry from one of the two ports, depending on the timetables. In winter there are fewer sailings, so transport is booked early.
- Koukounaries and Strofylia: the pine forest and Lake Strofylia are a protected area. For plots near them, the engineer checks the restrictions before design.
- Slopes with pine trees: after excavating on a slope, the bank above the pool needs stabilizing and planting so that winter rain does not wash soil into the water.

Questions
What happens to the soil on the slope when it rains in winter?
If the bank is left bare, rain washes soil down toward the pool. That is why the uphill side is stabilized and planted, and the paving around the pool slopes to carry water away. The method is discussed at the site survey.
