Prefab pools in Megara and Kineta
Megara spreads across a broad plain of olive groves, and the Megaritiki olive is one of the country's well-known varieties. Many homes here are detached houses with a yard on farmland plots.
Further west, Kineta is a seaside settlement with holiday homes on slopes between the mountain and the Saronic Gulf, less than an hour from Athens.
What we watch for in Megara and Kineta
- Olive pollen: in May the olive trees flower and the pollen forms a yellowish film on the surface. During those weeks the skimmer and filter work harder, and a cover helps.
- Flat plots: on the plain, water from a heavy rain spreads across the yard. The pool's edge sits slightly higher than the surrounding ground so mud does not wash into the water.
- South-facing Kineta: houses face south toward the sea, so the pool gets sun from morning to afternoon. It is people who need shade: a pergola over the sun loungers, not over the water.

Questions
Will olive pollen dirty the water in spring?
For a few weeks in May, yes. The pollen collects in the skimmer and the filter, so the basket needs emptying and the filter backwashing more often. After flowering, pool care goes back to normal.
