A 3 × 5 m pool for a yard in town
A 3×5 m pool has 15 m² of water: about 15 m³ with 1.10 m panels or 21 m³ with 1.50 m panels. It fits in a town yard and is enough for a couple or a family with young children.
Three yards where it fits
The back yard of a detached house in town
The panels can be carried through narrow passages at the side of the house, so the pool can be installed even in a yard without easy access from the street. How the excavation will be done in such a case is looked at during the site survey.
A couple who want to cool off
5 m is not for training, but it lets you move around, lie on a float and sit on the steps in the evening with your feet in the water.
A family with young children
With 1.10 m panels the water level is about 1 m, so a parent can stand comfortably next to the child. The whole small surface can be supervised from one spot, and the water warms up quickly in June.
Water, approval and circulation
- Water surface: 15 m².
- Volume with 1.10 m panels: about 15 m³ (water level about 1.0 m).
- Volume with 1.50 m panels: about 21 m³ (water level about 1.4 m).
- Procedure: small-scale works approval, with a compact plant room and the other conditions your engineer checks.
At this size a skimmer pool is the natural choice: it needs no channel or tank, so more space is left for the yard. Put the skimmer on the side the wind usually blows towards, so leaves are pushed there instead of settling in the corners.
A layout for a yard of about 7.5×9 m
- Paving about 1 m wide all round: the pool and paving together take up about 5×7 m.
- A strip of about 2.5 m on the long side that gets the afternoon sun, for two loungers.
- On the short side facing the house, about 2 m for the entry with steps and a shower, so everyone rinses off before getting in.
- A compact plant room in the corner that faces your own wall, not your neighbour's window.
- A safety cover or fencing if there are young children in the house.

Smaller or a little bigger?
If the yard cannot take even this, the 2×4 m pool still lets you cool off with half the volume of water. If you can find one more metre of length, the 3×6 m pool also gives you a few strokes. All the dimensions are brought together in prefab pool sizes.

Questions
Will a 3×5 m pool fit in a 60 m² yard?
Usually yes, if the yard is not too narrow: the pool with about 1 m of paving all round takes up about 35 m², leaving room for loungers or a table. The final layout depends on the access and the position of the plant room, which are checked during the site survey.
1.10 m or 1.50 m panels for a 3×5 m pool with children?
For children up to primary school age, 1.10 m panels with a water level of about 1 m are usually better. 1.50 m suits a pool used mainly by teenagers and adults; see pool depth for details.
